Pdf Summary
This scientific article examines the prevalence of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and depression among patients with hand injuries, as well as the impact of these disorders on general health status. The study involved 106 adult hand injured patients, who were screened for PTSD and depression using questionnaires. Results showed that 32 patients qualified for PTSD and 19 patients for depression, with 16 patients meeting the criteria for both disorders. The study found a significant association between PTSD and depression. Patients with PTSD had significantly lower scores on the SF-36 subscales of role-emotional, body pain, social function, and mental health. Patients who had both PTSD and depression had significantly lower scores on all subscales except for role-physical. There were significant negative correlations between depression scores and all SF-36 subscales. The study suggests that nearly one-third of hand-injured patients meet diagnostic criteria for PTSD, depression, or both. It concludes that PTSD and depression have a negative effect on general health status after hand injury, and that it is important to consider psychological status when caring for patients with hand injuries.
