Distal radius fractures are common injuries, and surgical management techniques continue to evolve. Advances in technology have expanded the variety of fixation options available, but there is no consensus on the most effective treatment modality. Each approach requires unique surgical techniques, and the choice of implant system should be based on the surgeon's familiarity with the design and limitations of the implant. The indications for surgical intervention include intra-articular displacement, radial shortening, and dorsal tilt of the fracture. The use of preoperative computed tomography (CT) scans can assist in surgical planning and assessment of complex fracture patterns. Intraoperative fluoroscopic imaging is important for evaluating screw and plate placement, and additional imaging techniques such as ultrasound and arthroscopy may also be used to aid in the surgical management of distal radius fractures. Further research and randomized trials are needed to clarify the most effective treatment methods for these fractures.
