Pdf Summary
In this scientific article, the authors conducted a cost-utility analysis to compare different management strategies for end-stage rheumatoid wrist disease. The study involved a sample of rheumatoid patients and a national random sample of hand surgeons and rheumatologists. The results showed that both patients and physicians preferred surgical management over nonsurgical management. The cost per quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs) gained for total wrist arthroplasty compared to nonsurgical management was $2281, while the cost per QALYs gained for total wrist arthroplasty compared to total wrist arthrodesis was $2328. The authors concluded that total wrist arthroplasty and total wrist arthrodesis are both cost-effective procedures and should be considered for the management of rheumatoid wrist disease.
